The Calleja retail spaces officially reopened to the public
Hon. Minister Tonio Fenech joined owners and staff of Calleja for the reopening of their retail showroom spaces at Bishop Labini Street, Birkirkara. Mayor Michael Fenech Adami and Rev. Fr. Christopher Galdes also graced the ceremony, where a specially designed plaque was revealed to mark this landmark in the company's history.
Minister Fenech said, “I am delighted to be here for the much anticipated reopening of the Calleja stores. Everyone in the Birkirkara area has been excitedly awaiting the reopening. We are proud of the Calleja family’s commitment to business in the area and the continued success that has made this store so iconic. An 85 year commitment to the Maltese economy is nothing short of amazing, and we are grateful for their perseverance.”
Managing Director, Stephen Calleja said, “On behalf of the entire Calleja family, I would like to let everyone know how proud we are to be reopening and after months of putting the best face on this disruptive redevelopment, we’re glad to finally get back to business as usual.”
The 5,000 sq metre complex is designed to reflect the tone set by the new branding campaign for Calleja and brings together innovation, heritage and passion – “all values that are important to Calleja,” said Stephen Calleja.
The ground floor, devoted to electrical supplies has been increased in size. As well as considerable aesthetic changes (the space is now decked out in a mixture of dark woods and stainless steel), special care was taken to re-engineer the way customers move through the space. Oversized, backlit artworks from the latest Calleja advertising campaign are interspaced with an impressive range of the latest electrical supplies.
Stairs and a lift to the first floor lead to a stunning, contemporary space devoted to indoor and outdoor lighting. The centrepiece of this floor is a colour rendering room. This allows remote control demonstrations of how different light sources, reproduce colour in comparison with natural or ideal light.
The works took almost a year to complete and were designed and implimented by Italian interiors specialists: Ideainterni, with environmental graphics by Bulldog.
The Calleja stores on Bishop Labini Street officially reopened to the public on Tuesday June 8th.
