St. Paul's Bay promenade extension
A €1.4m extension to the promenade of St Paul’s Bay was inaugurated on the 6th September by Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism Mario de Marco.
The project was co-financed by the EU through the European Regional Development Fund and implemented by the Malta Tourism Authority.
The promenade was extended by 1km in an extensive project which necessitated the reorganisation of underground water culverts, utility services and sewers. A WWII machine gun post uncovered during the works was cleaned and restored, although it delayed completion of the project.
Calleja was commissioned to supply lighting products for the promenade and also for the illumination of Wignacourt Tower. This tower has been erected in 1609 by the Knights of St John to protect the order’s fleet stationed in St. Paul’s Bay.
